Pimp my links: Kineda
The second site we are going to feature in the Pimp My Links series is Kineda. Kineda is a blog that focuses on entertainment, lifestyle, and pop culture and has been around for over 8 years now.
Wordpress themes
Kineda is hands down one of the best-designed blogs I have ever seen. I would love to see them release a Wordpress theme based loosely on their current design. Don’t release the exact theme though, because you want to stay unique and not have a thousand other blogs out their looking exactly the same. Put a link back to your homepage in the footer and the theme will be good for thousands of links. In fact, why not release a whole bunch of themes? It’s pretty obvious someone over there has some serious web design skills.
Technorati widget
Kineda is no stranger to linkbait. The A-list Bloglebrity widget, which featured Pronet Advertising as an A-list blog, was a big hit. I just ran a check of the URL through Yahoo’s Site Explorer and that page alone has almost 30,000 links. I think a play off of that widget would be good for another solid linkbait campaign. For example my personal blog is only ranked as a B-list blog. That’s probably not something I’m proud enough for that would make me display the button on my blog. But it does say that Technorati considers the blog in the high authority group, now that would be something I would be more proud to display. I would also like to see some different colors of the button, pink is not exactly everyone’s favorite color. Another example of a very popular Technorati widget is the “How Much Is My Blog Worth”, nearly 400,000 links.
Content
Unfortunately for one reason or another the Kineda domain is banned from Digg. I am not sure exactly why they are banned but as we’ve seen recently it happens even to the best of us. This is unfortunate because Kineda writes great content and with a few minor changes here and there it would be perfect for the Digg audience. I mean, who wouldn’t love the “5 Steps to Getting the Girl of Your Dreams” post with the little Lego guys and all? Keep up the good content but consider adding bookmarking links to encourage your readers to bookmark it and make it easier for them to spread the content. Once again, use your mad design skills and put up some design tutorials, those spread like wildfire on the social sites.
Summary
Overall Kineda is a wonderful blog and there are many linkbait opportunities available to them. They already have a strong reader base and lots of great content, now it’s just about figuring out how to encourage the readers to spread that content. With a few minor Social Media Optimization enhancements that should not be too much of a problem. The URL being banned from Digg is a little bit of a setback because Digg is such a great platform to spread content, but it’s not the end of the world for them. There are plenty of other social media sites that can still help the content travel such as Delicious, StumbleUpon, and Reddit to name a few.
